About St. John’s Wort

St John’s Wort flowers grow as  native Michigan wildflowers at Well Within Farm Sanctuary. Every year around June 25, St John the Baptist Day, we harvest the St John’s Wort flowers in bloom. Being careful not to over forage we leave many plants to go to seed thus increasing the following year’s bounty. The flowers are then infused in olive oil, and set in the summer sun until it turns a deep red color. Blended with local beeswax and love, each salve is then poured into a beautiful golden tin. In doing this we only offer limited quantities of quality medicinal St John’s Wort salve. This salve has the potential to help ease inflammation, minor cuts, bruises, stings and other skin ailments. Pairing St John’s Wort Salve with any of our herbal salves compounds the health benefits of each individual salve. Of the flower we gather, a portion is dried in its entirety, cut, and used as an herbal medicinal St John’s Wort tea, which when consumed regularly can help soothe SAD or seasonal affective disorder. SAD is a type of depression that comes and goes in a seasonal pattern.  St John’s Wort looks beautiful in a wild flower bouquet as well!
